2008 Olympics

Back when I was a little kid I never really cared about what happens in the news, but as I grew older I realized that if you look in the right places, it’s very important to know what is going on in the world. So that’s when I started watching the news and took an interest in one particular event: the Olympics.

To be honest, I don’t really care about the sports too much as I do learning about other cultures. There were some things that I never knew about the world, like the fact that there’s 204 countries. There are over 11,000 athletes in the world, and from the countries they range from 1 athlete to over 400. My dad was excited that Manny Pacquiao was the flag bearer for the Philippines. XD

I didn’t watch it for the first hour, but I started watching at the amazing light show part where 2,008 men were wearing neon costumes and coming together to make a bird. That was pretty awesome, and my favorite part. I also loved the costumes as well for each country. The ceremony was truly beautiful.

Watching the Olympics is an amazing and cultural experience. Athletes come from around the world to get together and have some friendly competition. Thank you Greece for starting this wonderful tradition. I’ve learned a few facts here and there from mythology units in english and history class, but nothing beats watching, or even better: being at the Olympics.

There are some things worth watching on TV after all. I can’t wait to see what will happen next. I wish most media would be as interesting as this.
