2 Week Makeup Blog

I looked at my last post and looked at today’s date and I thought, “OMG! I’m overdue for an update!” Now, of course one of the most important rules* to blogging is to wait until you have something that you feel passionate about to write on. This, of course, brings more users to your blog since you have interesting content that doesn’t put the reader to the land of Z’s (asleep). However, another important rule is to also update frequently. Two week intervals are not exactly “frequent” in terms of the world today where you can get anything. Fast. So…which rule is more important? All of them bring a happy and traffic filled blog, but would you rather have a dead site with amazing content or a frequent site with half-assed content?

Personally, I think that the dead (or at least “slowly moving”) site with content will get more hits if they have such “amazing content”, and the owner doesn’t put it on hiatus and covers the content up when he or she disappears. If the site is lucky, it might be linked and more and more people will stay for a longer time on that site. With the half-assed content site (which most sites can be…), one glance will drive away visitors faster than a terrorist attack. If more people take a quick “hit and run”, traffic will decrease.

Either way, each brings a major disappointment to the user. Websites are intended to provide some sort of content and present it to the viewer. Unless a person just happened to become popular, A-list bloggers (or have plenty of good friends/affiliates that actually comment), chances are that mundane entries of “my new hairstyle” and “my 2 week anniversary with my bf” will not get him/her so far with the commenters. It is true that a blog is supposed to relate your life with others, and it does that in some respect with specific events one blogs about. However, it won’t go much farther than that. Blogging about day to day experiences gives the reader nothing to comment about, since most daily events are a “you had to be there” moment. It’s okay to do this every once in a while when in a writer’s block, but an interesting topic and/or a unique yet witty style of writing will do the trick.

I have a hard time with this a lot, so I know how a lot of people feel when it comes to the state of “blogger’s block”. Ironically, before this topic popped up into my head, I was just going to jot down a quick 10 facts about my 2 weeks then leave. Glad I didn’t, huh? (Or are you still looking forward to it? Either one, or both, is fine.) Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s minutes to midnight and I have to get ready for bed and school. Note to self: sleep more!

*When I say “rules”, I’m just referring to recurring statements that I’ve seen over and over again in many “blog writing tip/site tip” articles.
